South from Šibenik to the central Dalmatian islands

The Kornati loop is the classic Šibenik week; this one goes the other way, south to the islands people usually reach from Split, and comes home by the Krka river. It suits a second charter or a crew that wants towns and wine as much as anchorages. Legs assume 5 to 6 knots; the maestral gives an afternoon reach on most of them.

Saturday: Mandalina to Primošten | about 11 nm

Out through the Sveti Ante channel and south to Primošten, a village on an islet joined to the mainland, with Marina Kremik in the bay behind it and moorings and a town quay in front. Babić red wine from the stone-walled vineyards, dinner in the old town, and a short first day.

Sunday: Primošten to Stomorska, Šolta | about 25 nm

South-east across the Split channel to Šolta, the island in front of Split, and its east-coast village of Stomorska: a small quay with lazy lines, moorings in the bay, three restaurants and a bakery. Maslinica, on the west tip with a marina and the Martinis Marchi castle, is the alternative if the wind favours it.

Monday: Stomorska to Stari Grad, Hvar | about 16 nm

Across the Hvar channel to Stari Grad, the oldest town in Croatia, at the head of a 4-mile bay. Marina and town quay; anchorages in Zavala and Tiha inside the bay. Walk the Stari Grad Plain, drink at the wineries on the road to Jelsa, and skip the Hvar town crowds until Tuesday if you want them.

Tuesday: Stari Grad to Vis town | about 22 nm

Round Cape Pelegrin and west across open water to Vis, the far island, with its Venetian town on a horseshoe bay. Quay in Kut or Luka, or anchor; check the forecast, since the harbour is open to the north-east. Stiniva beach on the south coast by taxi, the military tunnels, and Vugava wine in the evening.

Wednesday: Vis to Komiža and Biševo, back to Vis or Komiža | about 20 nm

Round the island to Komiža, book the Blue Cave for the late morning, cross the 5 nm to Biševo, and return to Komiža's quay for the night or anchor in Stončica on the north coast if the wind is westerly. A short day of sightseeing rather than distance.

Thursday: Komiža or Vis to Rogoznica | about 34 nm

The long crossing north, back past Šolta to the mainland at Rogoznica, with Marina Frapa, one of the largest on the coast, and a town quay. Leave by 08:00 to arrive before the afternoon sea breeze peaks. The Dragon's Eye lake behind the village is the walk.

Friday: Rogoznica to Skradin and back to Mandalina | about 20 nm

North to Šibenik, through the town's harbour and up the Krka river, under the bridge and across Prokljan lake to ACI Skradin, the marina at the foot of the national park (the yacht cannot go further; the park boat takes you to the Skradinski Buk falls). Return to Mandalina in the evening or Saturday morning: 8 nm, an hour and a half. If a Skradin night appeals more than a last night in Šibenik, arrange the Saturday morning return with the base.

Variations

Replace Vis with Hvar town and Palmižana for a shorter, busier week (Thursday becomes 25 nm). In a strong bura, stay on the mainland side: Primošten, Rogoznica, Trogir and the Krka. Bases and availability on our Šibenik charter page.
