Build a compact BVI island circuit
Most one-week BVI charters begin on Tortola. A relaxed circuit can combine nearby islands and anchorages such as Norman Island, Cooper Island, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke, with Anegada considered only when conditions, crew experience and the week’s pace make it sensible.
An illustrative seven-night rhythm
Use Saturday for handover and a short first leg when the operator permits departure. On full sailing days, a useful rhythm is a morning passage, a lunch and swimming stop, then an afternoon leg to the overnight anchorage. Plan to return to the home-marina area on Friday before the contractual deadline and sleep aboard there for the final night when required.
Famous stops are options, not promises
Mooring availability, wind and sea state can alter the sequence. A good itinerary includes nearby alternatives and does not depend on securing every famous anchorage at a particular time.
What to compare before booking in the BVI
Base, arrival night and provisioning
Confirm the exact Tortola base, ferry or flight connections, boarding time and whether an arrival-night stay is needed. Provisioning choices and delivery deadlines can affect the first day more than the sailing distance.
Moorings, anchoring and local requirements
Popular overnight areas can be busy. Review the operator’s briefing, local entry and cruising requirements, mooring systems and weather limits. Bareboat approval remains operator-specific even in a destination often described as approachable.
Capacity, crew and total cost
Compare the actual cabin plan with the guest count. If you hire a skipper or cook, reserve suitable crew accommodation. Add mandatory fees, insurance or deposit terms, fuel, provisioning, moorings, shore meals and crew expenses to the yacht price before comparing options.
Common questions about BVI yacht charters
Are the BVI suitable for a first Caribbean charter?
The relatively compact island group can suit first-time charter guests, particularly with an experienced skipper. Trade winds, mooring decisions, navigation and operator rules still require realistic planning.
Should Anegada be included?
Treat Anegada as an optional longer leg, not an automatic stop. The decision should reflect weather, navigation confidence, yacht capability and the rest of the week’s route.
