Hvar, Korčula and Mljet from Split
Three of the best-known names in the Adriatic in one week: Hvar town for the evening, Korčula for the walls, Mljet for the lakes. The route runs south-east along the islands and comes back through the Hvar channel. Legs assume 5 to 6 knots; the maestral from the north-west makes the outbound afternoons downwind and the return a reach.
Saturday: Split to Milna, Brač | about 10 nm
The standard first night: across the channel to Milna's marinas and quay, a stone village with everything a first evening needs.
Sunday: Milna to Hvar town | about 18 nm
Down the west of Brač and across to Hvar, the busiest harbour in Dalmatia. The town quay takes bookings through the harbourmaster and fills by noon in summer; the alternative is a mooring in the Pakleni coves or ACI Palmižana (2 nm) with the taxi boat. The fortress at sunset, then the square.
Monday: Hvar to Korčula town | about 30 nm
The long day: east along Hvar's south coast, past Šćedro, into the Pelješac channel where the afternoon wind reaches 20 knots, and on to ACI Marina Korčula, east of the walls. Book it. Evening in the old town; the Moreška dance on Mondays and Thursdays in summer.
Tuesday: Korčula to Polače, Mljet | about 18 nm
South-east across the channel to Mljet and into Polače, the bay closed by islets that is the safest harbour on the island, inside the national park. Restaurant moorings and a quay; park tickets at the kiosk; the lakes by minibus or on foot, then the boat to the monastery island.
Wednesday: Polače to Šćedro | about 25 nm
Back north-west along Korčula and across to Šćedro, the uninhabited island off Hvar's south coast. Moorings in Lovišće, anchoring in Manastir, two konobas, no shop. The quiet night of the week.
Thursday: Šćedro to Maslinica, Šolta | about 25 nm
West along Hvar's south coast, round Cape Pelegrin and north to Maslinica at the west tip of Šolta: Marina Martinis Marchi below the castle, a town quay and the Šešula anchorage next door. Dinner in the village.
Friday: Maslinica to Split | about 12 nm
Up the west of Šolta and across to the base for the afternoon check-in. Fuel at the marina. Diocletian's Palace for the last evening.
Variations
Swap Wednesday's Šćedro for Hvar's Zavala or Milna bay if the crew wants a beach with a restaurant. With a bura forecast, stay north of Korčula: Vela Luka instead of Mljet. Bases and availability on our Split charter page.
Questions about the Hvar, Korčula and Mljet itinerary
Can we get a berth in Hvar town?
Sometimes. The quay is small and the harbourmaster's booking system fills early. Plan on Palmižana or the Pakleni moorings and treat a Hvar berth as a bonus.
Is Mljet worth the detour?
Yes. The lakes, the monastery and the pine forest are unlike anything else on the route, and Polače is the best-sheltered night of the week.
How windy is the Pelješac channel?
In summer the maestral funnels to 20 to 25 knots by mid-afternoon. Reef early and enjoy it, or pass before 14:00.
